They’re worth a thousand somethings anyway…

I’m in Panera right now. It smells quite nice in here but I don’t know if I’m going to order anything. I’ve been pumpkin coffee from D&D lately and I plan on getting one when I’m done posting this.

The reason I’m here in the first place, well, reasons rather are: #1, I couldn’t stand sitting (YOU CAN’T STAND IF YOU’RE SITTING LOL YOU JOKEY JOKEMAKER) at my dining room table for a day again and needed a change of scenery and #2, I went for a walk and this place was nearby.

Rutherford, a town I basically grew up in, is like Princeton and Princeton is like Rutherford. A long main street with dozens of small shops that’s always extremely adorable and oddly comforting. So I took to the street for an impromptu photo outing.

(Two little girls stopped by this bush and kept shouting, “OOOH BERRIES!”)

(Tumblr follows you everywhere you go, seriously.)

Although it was only a half hour, just walking around and taking pictures was super relaxing/enjoyable. I’m getting kind of hungry now though. My laptop battery has 53 minutes left. DAMN YOU PEOPLE USING ALL THE AVAILABLE OUTLETS!

And here’s the part of the segment where I put on my lipstick and fancy eyeshadow and whore myself off again. Alas, another creation has been posted to Etsy.

They’re Winchester Whiskey cookies…and I used cookie cutters…and I’m not even going to mention the fact I used my flask and shot glass as props.

Moving on.

I’m taking on a mostly Supernatural theme because that’s what most of my ideas revolve around. Although, I would like to make at least ONE sale first before I begin creating my next idea. Goodness knows how long that might take though.

Maybe I should stop at Walgreens on my way home and stock up on cosmetics just in case……

Baking Hooker

I just looked over and literally thought for a second that Max was using the home computer

My brain = SHOT.

Who’s up for some food pictures?! I KNOW I AM.

I’ve been very oatmeal crazed lately. There’s really no point in taking a picture everyday because I eat the same breakfast….everyday.

  • 1/3 cup oats
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/3 cup water
  • Pinch of salt
  • Shakes of cinnamon

That’s the staple right there. Additions vary depending on what my house has to offer. There’s ALWAYS nut butter in my oatmeal I can tell you that for certain.

Sidenote: Speaking of which, ATTENTION TO EVERYONE, Peanut Butter & Co. is on sale in ALL Shoprites this week. YES, jars of dark chocolate, white chocolate and cinnamon raisin peanut butter are only THREE DOLLARS.……Our house currently has seven jars. Gotta catch em all!

And back to regularly scheduled nonsense.

OK, not nonsense but sometimes Max thinks he cool by attempting to have side swept bangs. Good try.

CARROTS AND WHOLE WHEAT CARBS

Apparently that’s my thing at the moment. Fruit with yogurt and AB whole wheat things. I can dig that. Pictures like this make me think I’m a vegetarian sometimes.

Well, with the exception for my burger obsession and of course….

OH HELLO CHILI, FANCY SEEING YOU HERE!

Chubby’s chili has returned, as delicious as ever, and I’m currently on day three of it. There’s just… so much of it…but it’s so good…

Switching gears now (which is actually redundant for me to say because I don’t know how to drive stick shift despite the fact that I’m about 99 percent sure that my car can be although I would be able to know that for certain if I would just read the manual)

Er, wait what was I saying?

Oh yeah, my shameless self-promotion. Let me show you a picture.

These…are Doctor Who cookies. Vanilla custard to be exact. They’re fishsticks. And yes, that’s MY sonic screwdriver in the picture.

OK, enough beating around the bush (CLICHE)…I’m whoring myself on Etsy, hence the rather awkward title of this post. There, I said it. I’m selling nerdy cookies. And now I’m going to post my Etsy link and be THAT guy and hope that strangers have pity for me.

I’m just going to go over here and crawl into my hole of desperation. There’s cable.

Overly emotional girls are meant to be runners.

CONSISTENT. I deserve a medal for posting two days in a row. Chicka chicka yeah chicka.

As Michael Bolton would say, let’s get to it.

(Lonely Island reference…anyone? If you don’t know it, Youtube it. This is legit stuff)

Let’s talk running. Or, let me tell you a quick story about running.

Once upon a time (about 3 weeks ago) I had some boy problems. Details are unnecessary but the whole experience left my feelings were hurt and I was absolutely furious/frustrated at the world. So one night, in an overly-emotional-girl-thing induced fit I registered for the Seaside Half Marathon on October 16th, 2011.

I wasn’t really thinking and I have never run more than 10 miles at a time but KNEW I needed to do it. To be honest, self-loathing was WHOA crazy.

Personally, I’m kind of proud with myself for dealing my emotions in a healthy manner. Goodness knows I could have easily turned to, er, some not-so-healthy-former-habits.

So now I have six weeks of training to go. I’m running about 4-5 times a week along with strength training and cross-training. Anddddd there’s also the matter of my new purchase…

Well hello Sweeties.

My silly pink Nikes have been with me for a long time. They were first REAL running shoes that I received the start of my junior year at Rider. I love them dearly but 2 years with the same pair of running sneakers for a runner is basically asking for foot problems. Now that I’m training for a major race, I can’t risk that. Goodnight sweet Nikes and welcome Saucony ProGrid Ride 4

Thanks to Road Runner Sports my feets were evaluated and match with sneakers that would be most beneficial. Size 7 with a wide width please! Not to mention I may have picked up some inserts as well…

Haha, I didn’t actually want to take them OUT of my sneaker.

So far I’ve run with these 4 times since buying them and I’m definitely liking it. There’s more support with the Sauconys so I don’t get the full feeling that I’m striking the ground so hard. Also, the inserts were molded to fit my feet. I have extremely high arches and the inserts make me feel like I’m wearing sneakers that fit perfectly. Thumbs up all around!

Along with the training, I’ve also decided to really crack down on my eating habits. Since graduating I’ve been indulging a wee bit too much and just need to clean it up a bit. Vegetables ahoy and lots of ’em! No starvation, just healthy. You know how I do.

Lunch was chill

Whole wheat tortillas are a gift from Cas. The goods inside include apple slices, carrot slices, a tbsp of AB and a thin slice of swiss cheese. Don’t be fooled by how it sounds. I SWEAR this is an absolutely brilliant combo. The cheese and AB in particular go extremely well together.

Sides include more carrots, more apples, some [home garden] fresh cherry tomatoes and pretzel sticks. It was nice and fulfilling…..also, I like the way the wood photographs!

And with the running chatter out of the way, this is my current setup.

Yes, I am on the Supernatural Wiki page but I have a real reason for doing so, hence the notebook and paper located on the right. No, I can’t tell what it is because it’s still in the beginning stages. JUST TRUST ME.

The mug is protein powder, 1/2 cup frozen strawberries and water. I forgot how uninteresting protein smoothies tend to be and that’s lame because I’m going to be drinking a lot more of these….maybe I should start dressing them up in costumes. Hmmm.

And now I need to split. Running beckons me and then it’s gym time with my slister! Have a great rest of the day everyone!

September has arrived.

Exactly one year ago today was my first day of my last year of college. I had a purpose and that was to enjoy being a senior without  the worries of what the “real world” had in store from me.

Nothing but fancy sweet potatoes for a whole year. It was nice and felt very safe. Safe in that way that you can’t be bothered to worry about what the future had in store. OK, fast forward now. NOW, the same people I was being a hooligan with just last year now have real jobs with salaries and benefits. NOW, they’re graduate students pursuing further education. As for myself? I’m sitting here twiddling my thumbs for now; the waiting game is my current thing right now.

That’s not to say that I haven’t been doing anything. I’ve been doing, er, stuff.

Cantaloop and mango whilst pondering over a cookbook. When in doubt, bake!

My original plan was to combine recipes and make peanut butter pinwheel cookies with chocolate and pretzels. I followed the steps for normal pinwheel cookies, rolling out the dough, adding the fillings and chilling it in the fridge for a few hours. However, when I took the giant log out to cut into slices they just kept falling apart. So, I lumped it all together in a bowl and went the more classic route.

Next time I make them I’ll split the dough in half, add LESS filling and maybe even stick the log in the freezer. Cookie making is an art form. Don’t get it twisted.

An old friend returned from forbidden forest.

Looking bubbly there Magic Bullet. Bubbly like champagne. Champagne is classy. Therefore, Magic Bullet, you are classy.

What we’ve got here:

  • Frozen mango and strawberries
  • Fresh Mango
  • Greek yogurt
  • Vanilla protein powder
  • Water
  • A wee bit of agave nectar

Topped with some multigrain Cheerios and fashioned in my ever-helpful positive affirmation bowl. SIAB will always be there for me. BFF4L.

Other random things of randomness

Otis was creepin’

Serena actually wasn’t trying to smother the dog

I actually can’t help but go AWWWWWWW everytime I look at these. Way to be gooey LaForge.

Chubby Chubby thinks he’s hilarious and was like, “MAKE SURE TO TAKE A PICTURE OF THE HUGE MEAL YOU’RE ABOUT TO EAT”…..clever.

Also

This is just a teaser of a post to come. When it comes to the topic of running, I have LOTS of things to say and need to dedicate a completely different post to it. Oh baby believe me, it’s going to be good.

Lastly, to revert back to the gooey stuff for a moment

Looks who is starting her first day of middle school today! She’s a legit 6th grader now. I remember being in 6th grade…that was a weird time. Check out the bows on her, they just scream, “I’m ready for schoooooool!” Well, except she wasn’t. Pigtails are deceiving. Either way, my little buckethead is moving up in the world. Le sigh.

That’s all she, um, I, wrote. It’s pouring out but not humid so I’m thinking of a taking myself out for a nice rainy run. Guess we shall see.

Have a fabulous day everyone and good luck to everyone else starting school/new jobs! Rock it out 😀

Life is weird sometimes. So much so that it makes me want to blog with underlying attempts at being poetic.

Life knows how to push your buttons.

Like when everything is confusing, nothing seems to work and you decide to permanently take residence in the Lonely Hearts Club.

Or when you get denied for a credit card and feel the urge to go get the word “UNEMPLOYED” tattooed on your forehead.

And when you can’t help but sometimes remember how deep your roots run.

*Insert orchestra of tiny violins*

I’m not whining; Keri LaForge does not flow like that. I just figure that in life there has to be a balance of good and bad or then there’s no actual depth or true meaning. Makes sense anyway.

Life certainly knows how to make up for it though.

Like when your favorite flowers hang out in your backyard

Or when a 12 year-old manages to make you feel like Katy Perry.

When food is wonderful and vibrant, not an enemy.

You realize the only man you need right now is fuzzy and has four legs

When not all angels are the weeping kind

And random yoga in the living room is the cure for any negativity.

Looking at the sky brings you comfort

And houses explode with rainbows.

You realize that looking forward to everything and nothing at the same time is normal. Actually, it’s more than normal, it’s expected. You’re not fighting a losing battle…it’s not even a battle at all.

Life is stupidly fabulous and for that I raise my [imaginary] bottle of whiskey to you. You’re one hell of an oxymoron.

All talk? Try more like no talk.

I had post all ready to go and then it just deleted itself. Just like that.

IT’S BEEN DEFILED…WITH DARK MAGIC!!

Urgh. It was a nice post too. Lots of lovely pictures from my summer and more showcasing of the new camera (who has yet to be named). I’m way too annoyed with WordPress now to start over. Sometimes I give up easily.

This post is going to have even less words. All pictures. Let’s get to it.

You know I’m annoyed when I don’t even bother putting stupid commentary underneath any of the pictures. WordPress should know better than to be pushing MY buttons and let ME do the button pushing. Pshhh.

I’m sitting in Whole Foods right now BTW. I went on a 4 mile run and am now sitting here trying to get some internet stuff done before I go to the gym with Cate. To be honest though, the wifi here is kind of stinky and I couldn’t find coconut water for the life of me and that is the only thing I’m craving right now. So instead I’m drinking WF water that’s apparently electrolyte enhanced.

Does it work? Who knows. It does make me feel better though so I’ll just let the psychological matter of it keep control this time.

Teaser picture for my next post….I like cliffhangers, cliffhangers are cool 😀

Hey ya!

So in case the GPOY picture didn’t tell the story I wanted it to tell, I splurged and bought myself a Nikon D3000 yesterday afternoon.

Moment of craziness? Happy graduation to me? Probably the first one but whatever the reason, I couldn’t be happier with the purchase. This camera is absolutely incredible and although I still have SO much to learn about photography, it was worth every cent.

Everything just seems to have more LIFE

…including FOOD!

A breakfast photo. Seriously, how long has it been since I’ve posted one of these babies? A LONG TIME.

In the mix:

  • The typical combo of 1/3 water, 1/3 milk, 1/3 oats
  • Half a banana
  • Half a cut up peach
  • A few shakes of cinnamon
  • A tbsp of PB stirred in
  • 1/3 cup Multigrain Cheerios

SPLEEEEEE! Check out the fine details on that spoonful. Quality Oats2O you’ve got there.

Other eats of the day included lots and lots of fruit

Watermelon and cheeries! (and a few unpictured pretzel sticks on the side)

OK, I didn’t actually EAT this but the coloring on it is absolutely beautiful. Fresh from my mom’s garden it was supposed to be a typical eggplant. Instead, she got a Japanese eggplant! Fancy veggies are fancy and I’m very curious to see if the taste varies at all.

Sidenote: I need to work on backdrops for my photos now. I mean, not that I don’t love the salad spinner and the random green pepper creepin’ in the back and everything but……

Dinner!

The fam had BLTs so I figured a deconstructed version would be fun. I still had the B and the L (spinach?) and the T so that’s all that matters!

  • Spinach
  • Tomato
  • 3 pieces crumbled bacon
  • Honey roasted peanuts
  • Carrot
  • Balsamic dressing

On the side I had half a slice of rye bread with some swiss cheese and peach-mango salsa. If you ever EVER get the chance, buy peach-mango salsa. It’s all the kick of salsa but instead the extra kick is from the unexpected sweetness from the chunks of the fruit.

Stepping away from the picture lovin’ for a moment, here’s a quick list of things I’ve done over the summer in case anyone was curious. Probably not but still….IT MAKES ME FEEL BETTER ABOUT MYSELF DON’T JUDGE ME.

Ahem, cue bullet points.

  • I ran the Teterboro 5K for the second year in a row and finished at 28:22 which is a full FOUR seconds faster than last year. Progress, what what!
  • I’ve been on a few interviews and they have all thus failed me. The job searching continues.
  • I’ve seen Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 FOUR times so far. Certainly wouldn’t mind seeing it a couple more times 😀
  • I’ve been driving all over New Jersey because I want to see my girls THAT badly
  • And I don’t regret it!
  • My sister and I joined Blink Fitness for a month thanks to Groupon! This girl hasn’t been to a legit gym since May. I feel like my entire life has been restored and it’s a beautiful thing.

That’s the most important points anyway. I’ve fallen way, way, way too far behind to catch up on every single thing so now I’m starting from scratch I guess. Woo for fresh starts!

My grandma’s 90th birthday is tomorrow so you know that the new camera (who does not have a name yet!) will be getting some exercise. So until then, this picture.

Have a lovely night everyone!

It’s like golddust

I’m keeping it simple.

Apologizing is futile.

APOLOGIZING WAS NEVER AN OPTION.

Extremely unnecessarily sidenote: I saw X-Men First Class and it may or may not have changed my life.

That’s not the point of this post. For now, THIS is the point of the post and all you need to know for now.

OH BABY, IT’S ON.

Soda and chips and bacon and hash browns…foodiesaywhat?!?

Good afternoon everyone! I’m a couple days behind (surprise surprise) but am here to do that whole updating thing. There’s actually a bunch more food pictures than I thought so that’s always pleasant.

As unhealthy as it is, when I get a can of soda it makes my day instantly better.

ESPECIALLY vanilla/cherry flavored ones. They’re my kryptonite!

I’ve been doing a bunch of baking lately. One project was for my day beach trip with my Rider ladies. I wanted to do something that would be substantial for a beachy setting.

What we’ve got here is a multi-layer fruit filling bar or Layer-Layer-Layer bars OR what happens when I decide to mash together two different recipes.

Just when you think I’m done with layers… THERE’S MORE.

  • The bottom layer is an oats/brown sugar/flour mixture that was very similar to the granola bars I made a while back.
  • The second layer is a simple strawberry filling that I made by combining 2 cups of cut-up strawberries, 2 tbsp corn starch and about 1/4 cup of sugar.
  • The top layer is nothing more than 1/2 cup of oats mixed with melted chocolate chips and a splash of milk.

Ending results were tasty but messy and the recipe needs to be refined hardcore. Too many inconsistencies for my liking. Live and learn!

Along with the LLL bars, there was beautiful beach weather, other delicious noms and just general positivity/happiness.

Breakfast? I was in a rush that morning and didn’t have time….this is just another reason why Wawa is a great great thing.

Again, Wawa to the rescue. Sub with turkey, swiss cheese, tomato, lettuce, roasted red peppers, pickles and a little bit of oil and vinegar. OH, and there was BACON on it too.

Fast-forwarding a bit to keep on the bacon topic, we had dinner at Cracker Barrel (WHEEE) and, yes you guessed it, MOAR BACON.

She would fit right in with the EpicMealTime guys.

MusclesGlasses approves. (picture from f*ckyeahepicmealtime.tumblr)

The rest of the trip included ocean shenanigans, the nicest waitress ever, belting out “I Will Always Love You” three times in a row, LOTS of Games of Thrones, bar creepers, a guy named Penguin, pretzel sticks and even more Wawa (I ate an apple and a Kashi bar during the drive home)

Like I mentioned before, my cousin’s graduation party was this week. For the occasion, I decided to make something I saw in the Shoprite paper. Name of the game?

Cannoli chips!

You’re essentially taking the recipe for cannolis (original recipe post HERE) and instead of frying them as tubes, you use cookie cutters to make shapes instead!

I opted to use heart shapes. They were the perfect size and just that right amount of adorable

Much easier to make than real cannolis and they’re more laid-back esq…. if that makes any sense anyway. Instead of filling tubes, the filling is made in one container and scooped out at will!

Yummmmmmm ricotta yummmmmm.

Everyone at the party seemed to like them so I declare this a success!

The food, as expected, was delicious

We’ve got salad, some roast potatoes, a bunch of green beans (nice and mushy the way I like them!), a bit of homemade Mac and Cheese, a small piece of chicken and a bit of sliced steak.

When I took my camera out my cousin Sam asked me what I was doing and I gave a slight synopsis of a typical food blogger. Then, naturally, she asked for me to take a picture of her plate.

HI SAM AND HAPPY BIRTHDAYYYYYY!!!

Also, she wanted me to let everyone know that Aunt Marge’s Macaroni and Cheese is her favorite thing 😀

This morning, fast forwarding a little bit more, I was up bright and early again. This time I was making hash browns because Serena randomly asked about them a couple days ago. Making them is an

absolute snap and literally took me 10 minutes at the most!

I peeled three potatoes, shredded them and then wrapped them in a dish towel and squeezed out the excess liquid.

And then threw the towel down the basement stairs when I was done with it….

Heat up a pan with about half an inch of oil (or less I suppose)

(POTATO BITS!)

Add a little bit of salt and pepper to the potatoes, shape ’em into patties and then fry until golden brown!

Tada! Hash browns.

They were a little bland for my taste and would be awesome with diced onions. Serena liked them though so it’s all good. Nutritious breakfast? Not exactly sometimes I just want to fry things.

*coughSpongebobSquarepantscough*

I didn’t actually indulge in the fried entities aside from a required tasting and instead went to ole’ reliable.

(I do love that the paper has this huge multi-day article about great places to eat in Princeton AFTER I graduated)

  • The usual 1/3 cup of milk, water and oats
  • 5 strawberries
  • Tbsp sliced almonds
  • 1/3 cup fancy cheerios (I use the term fancy because some of them are randomly red)
  • An overflowing tbsp of AB
  • Small tsp DCAB

Even when faced with fried perals, oatmeal triumphs in the end!

That’s all I’ve got! Tomorrow is a shopping bonanza/costume searching with Kat and then Thursday begins the epicness that is PHILADELPHIA COMIC CON. Ha bisky I literally CANNOT wait!!! There’s going to be pictures and more food and awesome nerdiness and I hope everyone prepares themselves.

Have a good rest of the day everyone!

Maybe waffles aren’t so annoying after all.

Early morning blog post! Early morning blog post!

(in my head that was set to the Conga Line tune, go figure)

Good morning everyone! My niece had to take a shower this morning so I was up at 6 to make sure she actually got up. I honestly forgot how much I love getting up early. My desire to accomplish things *coughbloggingcough* is always so much greater!  While Serena was showering I took on waffle production.

Blog picture with Victoria’s Secret catalog in the corner…houseofwomensaywhat?!

Boxed waffle mix. I wasn’t happy about it but my parents insist that making the batter from scratch is a waste of time. Le sigh. I’m waving the white flag on this one…for now anyway.

I’ve become bored of waffles for the most part. They’re always around and I swear that 50% of the time SOMEONE is talking about them. Today, however, the waffle machine was begging for some whole wheat lovin’.

BAM. Two sets of waffles…. SMART.

I am IN LOVE with the recipe I used today:

  • 2/3 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tbsp agave nectar
  • 2 tbsp flax egg
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 tsp vanilla

My first time using agave nectar AND flax egg and BOTH were a success!

OK, they’re not the prettiest waffles I’ve ever made but remember what we all learned in school…don’t judge a book by it’s cover!

This life lesson was brought to you by Keri, waffles and the letter Q…why Q? Why not.

After reading a post last night in which Jenna used flax seed, it seemed like fate. I loved how convenient it was to make (1 tbsp flax seed and 2 tbsp warm water) and it definitely did give the waffles a nice slight nuttiness. Happy fiber and omega-3s… what up?!

Also, agave has stolen my heart. This sweetener substitute has been floating around the blog world for as long as I can remember. So when I spotted it at Walmart for 3 bucks I had to buy it.

Agave has a low glycemic index, according to All About Agave.com because it contains fructose, which is what provides the natural sweetness in fruits and vegetables. So, using agave doesn’t spike your blood sugar levels. Essentially, it’s like Splenda but all natural and essentially, better. I’m definitely going to be testing it the next time I bake *coughlatertodaycough*

Also also, agave (ah-GAH-vay) is the plant that tequila is made from………..and here’s the finished breakfast, topped with cut-up strawberries and my favorite topping EVER.

I don’t know if you know this, but I truly think I’m hilarious sometimes. They’re in love and I needed to Picnik about it!

Someone is creepin’

D’awwwww, sorry lady bug eraser, you can’t waffles…you’re an eraser. You missed out though, this was an fabulous breakfast that might have just restored my faith in waffles. SMART.

Rewind to yesterday random stuff…like finally remembering to take a picture of my oatmeal! Bwahahaha.

Um, usually you can actually see the oats…I ended up finished what was left of two bags of cereal…oops.

  • 1/3 cup oats
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1/3 cup water
  • Half a banana
  • Cinnamon
  • Strawberries
  • 1/3 cup Fiber one cereal
  • 1/4 cup Special K granola
  • 1 tbsp AB

See? There are oats. They’re just hiding. THESE PARTICULAR OATS WERE CAMERA SHY. IT HAPPENS.

Sorry…I stick up for my oatmeal sometimes when it can’t defend itself. Normal.

In other news, watermelon is back and ready for action!

LOL mess LOL.

Refreshing and sweet and what could be considered the ultimate summer fruit. Word.

I also made some peanut butter chocolate covered figs.

Quick backstory. One night Serena came home from volleyball practice and made herself something to eat. I was in the basement cave at the time but when I came upstairs, lo and behold, the kid was eating a bowl of peanut butter and chocolate chips. The next morning, the damn thing was in our fridge…and continued to be in our fridge for a week.

Yesterday, I got sick of having it stare at me so I yanked the thing out and threw it in the microwave. I made Chubby buy me figs the other day ($1 for about 13 of them!) and I figured this was good way to break ’em in. So, out of complete craziness, PBCCFigs were born. They taste like the result of a Fig Newton and a Reeses Cup having a one night stand.

Sexual encounters between food stuffs, too much?

Look at me, I’m a handddddd model 😀

That’s all folks! My digesting time is officially up so it’s time to go for a run before the humidity gets to be too much. I’ve also got a lot of baking and other stuff to do today so it’ll be a boatload of pictures and fun and happiness. What I leave you with are the result of Serena someone using my camera when I wasn’t looking.

What better what to start off the day then with some fine art? 😀
