Library lovin’

I haven’t sat in a library to do work since April but here I am; the Garfield Public Library to be specific. The wifi connection is bitchin’ here and to be honest, my “office” started getting a tad depressing to be at actually.

I love it, don’t get me wrong, but I definitely needed a change of scenery. Although, the library doesn’t have delicious snacks.

Dannon Oikos Greek Peach Yogurt with some Special K cereal

As a Greek yogurt enthusiast, there always seems to be a new brand appearing every week. Everyone is jumping on the bandwagon and although I haven’t done much reviewing about them, I’ve been constantly on the prowl.

So, I’ve discovered that there is both Dannon Greek and Dannon Oikos Greek.

Straight up Dannon has the protein and nutritional value of your typical Greek yogurt but the consistency and taste just wasn’t the same. That thickness just wasn’t there and on a personal level, that’s a key factor and deal-breaker. Dannon Oikos, on the other hand, had the thickness and was more similar to the actual Oikos brand that it was modeled from.

Conclusion? Grab the Dannon Oikos, much more authentic and just better tasting.

Also, after rereading that paragraph it seems that the moral of the review is that I like things thick.

No, I’m not saying it. I’m not. I’m putting 13 year-old boy me in timeout.

MOVING ON. This book-filled atmosphere is a lovely working environment though. Much less distracting than being at home and the librarians are talking, well, now they’re kind of yelling, about salads, hamburgers and restaurants in general. My librarian brethren have been found and clearly I’m meant to be here. No need for headphones!

Speaking of hamburgers (because I never speak of them, obviously) that was my choice of dinner last night

Just like the librarians we talking about. Burgers and fries and salad, oh my!

George Foreman-ified ground beef with some swiss cheese and on a multigrain English muffin. The burger craving hasn’t gone away yet and it’s been about 5 months now. Can anyone say “permanent obsession”? Oh and as if I haven’t ingested enough sweet potato fries lately. Again, an obsession that is never going to go away. Ditto for the cherry tomatoes.

To end this post, here’s a humorous picture of me looking like an assbutt.

Long story short, I bought a strawberry seltzer water and it sprayed everywhere. And of course I was waiting at a stoplight and yelled, “SON OF A BITCH!” and this old lady in the car next to me gave me a dirty look. Oh, and my shirt is still wet right now. I wonder the other library patrons are judging me right now.

“Why yes! I did just get finished taking part in a wet t-shirt contest! No, I didn’t win…I wore two tank tops by accident and was disqualified. It’s OK though, I still had fun.”

…normal.

What I’ve been thinking about

Things to consider:

  • The way I want to spend the rest of my life

Cookie recipes, pineapple Chobani and pretzels

  • Retro Fitness does not want to hire me because they think I’m a spy and will tell all their secrets to my wonderful second home that is Blink Fitness.
  • The fact that the only time I wanted to be a spy was when I saw Harriet the Spy. That lasted a whole 24 hours.
  • How to cook pizza like my mother

It's just so beautiful!

  • Why anyone would even consider Summer to be the dominant season over Fall

She's got the right idea

Adorable caramel apples FTW

  • The fact that animals photograph so much better than humans
A man and his toy resting after a long day

She who pees on everything

  •  Breakfast is, and will always be, the absolute best meal of the day. Hands down.
A Monte Cristo with sweet potato fries courtesy of a fabulous place in Montclair called ‘Toast’. How can you go wrong with ham and swiss on French toasted Challah bread?!?!
  • Why the Candlewyck Diner stopped being the lovable greasy place we all knew and loved. Instead, it has become an oxymoronic fancy diner. Yikes.

Doilies?

The spinach dip was actually REALLY good and tasted like there were several kinds of cheeses used in it. However, I didn't realize that they were only serving bird sized portions of pitas now.

A burger with broccoli rabe and roasted red peppers. Again, props for being super tasty but the fries weren't sweet, were mushy but in a bad way and tasted a tad burnt actually. And I was convinced I would never met a sweet potato fry I didn't like. Sorry buddies, I didn't like you.

  •  Why I’m still so hell-bent on selling my nerdy cookies on Etsy despite my current lack of success.
  • Oh, and the fact that I’m going to be running 13.1 miles in less than three weeks. OH MY BISKY.
  • Whether or not there’s a reason the ginger trainer at my gym knows me by name

Yep, all things important. And by that, I mean all things that kind of aren’t. Whatever keeps me going though right?

P.S. Today is a wonderful day indeed! It’s my roomie’s 23rd birthday! Happy birthday a truly incredible human bean! You know when you meet one of those people and know you’re going to be friends with them for life? Yep, that’s how I feel about her. I think my post about her last year definitely trailed into the mushy and gross category so here’s a picture. WHEEEE I LOVE YOU MANDYYYYYYY.

Sickness will NEVER hold me down.

Almost been a week exactly. Hmm. I’m noticing a “Weekend Update” pattern starting to set in. Who do I think I am? Tina Fey?

Actually, I really wouldn’t mind being  Tina Fey.

I’ve decided I want to be her AND Chelsea Handler when I grow up. A love child of the two if you will. A girl can dream, right? 😀

Another irrelevant fine way to begin a post! Let’s get onto the good stuff. And by good stuff, I actually mean the complete LACK of stuff I’ve done this week due to being sick.

Headache, aches, fever, fatigue, hackinghackinghacking cough and general wonkiness as far as the eye can see. This BLACK DEATHHH (as it was lovingly named) got me, roomie, Kat and my 4 apartment girls down the hall… ALL AT THE SAME TIME. Talk about good timing eh?

It started Sunday afternoon and it hit really hard on Valentines Day of all days! I thought it was hilarious and kept saying, “This is what happens when you don’t have a man on Valentines Day, you get the flu!”

Actually, Jensen and Jared ended up being our dates. They helped, a lot.

We have special feelings about these guys… I have nothing else to say on the matter 😉

The DEATHHH has been slowly been decreasing since then and things are beginning to return back to normal. In the spirit of normal, here’s some pictures. Sickness caused me to slack in this department. My badddddd!

You know what isn’t bad though? Trying a new Chobani flavor!

This has definitely made it’s way to the higher part of my Chobani listing. I have mixed feelings about raspberry flavored things but this was just so GOOD. I had it with half of a cut up apple and a bunch of chocolate Goldfish and it was like eating dessert the whole time! Top five Chobani flavors. Ready? GO.

(ranked from favorite to least)

  1. Pineapple
  2. Vanilla
  3. Peach
  4. Plain
  5. Raspberry

Dost thou agree or did you throw things at the screen in disgust? Let me hear your favorite flavors!

Oatmeal was definitely a good friend this week. You know, especially when I decided to not leave my room for almost two days.

I love this bowl, SO MUCH. And I also love Cate because although she might not completely understand my love for bowls, she humors me anyway ❤

OatsOatsOats:

  • 1/3 cup oats
  • 2/3 cup water
  • 1 tbsp flax
  • Half a banana
  • 1/3 cup cinnamon Chex
  • 1 tbsp Special K granola
  • 1 tbsp AB

With a mixture like this, it makes it hard to feel sick!

Sidenote: I miss Kashi. I’m going to steal some from Dalys.

I revisited an old friend on Thursday. It’s been a while.

Oh hello Clif Bar, fancy seeing you here! I haven’t had this flavor in a longgggg time and kind of forgot how much of a replica to real carrot cake this is. It was complete with considerably large pieces of carrot and randomly placed frosting blobs. However, it was so much sweeter than I remember it to be! My sweet tooth is a powerful being so for me to say that really does mean something. Yeehaw!

Random happy sweet potato?

Maturity level = 0%

*shifty eyes*

And, er, that’s it. Hahahahaha.

Oh wait, here’s a taste of what my food writing class has been like.

From left to right we have a piece of an Asian pear, maramite on a spoon (whoa bisky whoa) and sprigs of fresh thyme.

Sorry about the pun.

This exercise was so much harder than I thought. While I’m pretty good with words, when put on the spot to describe the taste and smell of these foods, the words were nowhere to be seen! Although slightly disheartening, it’s a completely different aspect of food and only fuels my passion for it even more. Wheeeeeee!

Have a good day everyone…… don’t get blown away though, it’s super windy out! 😀

Everything should be edible!

Afternoon everyone! Check out these icicles.

Right outside of my building. Random a picture that clearly depicts what New Jersey weather has continued to be like. Case in point, crazy snowy ice rain that caused my Wednesday morning class to be canceled for the second week in a row! Our whole campus has been like a giant ice rink, definitely up there on the “not-appropriate-atmosphere-for-college-kids” scale.

I ended up being too afraid of falling on my face to walk to the gym so slept in (after being blessed with the sound of my Doctor Who ringtone at 6 AM and then at 8 AM) and had some double mug action.

Double muggys all the way across the skyyyyyyyyy

It was too close to lunch to have my beloved oatmeal so I had a small mugful instead

  • 1/3 cup oats
  • 2/3 cup water
  • 1/3 cup Chex
  • 1 tbsp granola
  • 1 tsp honey PB
  • 1 tbsp pineapple Chobani (<3)

And I just finished off the rest of the Chobani container with some granola. NOM.

Change of scenery! Oooh, aaah… I do love our pink curtains! They illuminate the room with this lovely pink glow and aren’t too shabby of a backdrop for food photos.

Asparagus is one of my favorite vegetables to ever exist ever. If you’ve been reading my blog you may have picked up the fact that whenever Dalys has it I get really excited and load up… no, I didn’t get just a plate of it. Paired it along with my usual spread of a sweet potato, tomatoes, spinach, feta, a veggie burger and some cranberries.

To further my case about my asparagus love I say this (although I may have posted about this before…. I’m dreadfully bloggy forgetful!). I once had a dream in which I was speaking with some random person and proceeded to say the following,

“If you don’t give me the asparagus I’m going to rip your heart out.”

Sometimes… I threaten people in my dreams of violence… over vegetables…..I mean, it’s not like I actually WOULD rip anyone’s heart out or anything………

*laughs nervously*

Er, look over there! A chicken nugget!

This isn’t just any chicken nugget my friends, THIS is a vegan chicken nugget! I’ve seen them in Dalys before but decided to finally try one out. And to be perfectly honest, it tasted like a plain ole’ chicken nugget and was quite tasty. Granted, I haven’t had a real chicken nugget since the summer but I imagine that it’s pretty damn close. Although I can’t help but be a little skeptic as to whether they are actual vegan, it’s still really nice to see that they’re trying.

Sidenote: Like my fascination with saying “cantaloop” and “meat beef”, I also have a tendency to call them “chicken nuggies”….just saying.

I like to jump all over the place when it comes to the order in which I present the foods I ate. The nuggie was from two days ago and this was my lunch. Consistencyyyyyyyy!

Again, A-typical Keri kind of food. The vegetable available was broccoli so that was fun!

  • Plain hamburger
  • Sauteed green peppers
  • Mixed greens
  • Shredded carrot
  • Hummus
  • Broccoli
  • Tomatoes
  • Sauteed mushrooms

Trololololol. Yep.

Sidenote #2: Has anyone else seen the TROLOLOL video? If you haven’t, go look it up on Youtube at the his very moment. It’s probably one of the funniest things I have ever seen in my life… and I’ve seen A LOT of funny things.

Other random eats/drinks… enjoyed at different times mind you.

What we’ve got here is a chocolate almond coffee (with skim milk!) that I drank while I sat outside of my food writing classroom and a chocolate chip brownie Larabar that I ate in Sam’s car the other day. Larabars were 5 for $5 at Shoprite so naturally I indulged in that… who would I be if I had let that pass me by?!?!

A sad, sad girl. That’s who.

Well, that was a bit depressing. Good thing the song “Sandstorm” just came onto my Ipod. Never heard it before? Go to Youtube! I guarentee you will want to start dancing all over the place!

Oh, I almost forgot about my apple from this morning. It’s not really important but the picture is more to prove a point.

I feel the same way about apple that I do about yogurt containers. When I finish all the yogurt I often wish I could eat the container as well (meaning I kind of wish that I ate plastic??) and this concept goes for apples as well. If I could eat the core and stem and all that, I would…I think because I always seem to want more of the deliciousness after it’s all gone.

Does anyone else feel the same?!?! Am I alone in wanting to be a garbage disposal girl?!?!

And with that new tidbit about me, I’m off to meet the ladies for dinner. Enjoy the rest of the day everyone and have a happy Thurthday!

😀

I feel complete now!

Again with the inconsistency! I feel like ever since I started this blog I started off almost EVERY post with a disclaimer about how useless I am sometimes.

So wait… I’m consistent about warning people about my inconsistency? PARADOX FTW!

I’ve been Rider University-ing all over place and already feel somewhat stressed…maybe because senioritis has hit me? Either way, despite how long it has seemed, it’s only been a week move-in!

Look! A familiar face… my favorite of all the snacks

Good old banana with Chobani, granola and AB. Out of all the things I recommend on this blog, THIS is towards the top. Texture, taste and filling? Check, check, check.

SPEAKING OF OLD FRIENDS……

OatmealOatmealOatmealOatmealOatmealOatmealOatmealOatmealOatmeal

Can you sense my excitement? This past weekend I finally obtained a giant canister of oats out of necessity. Even my roomie commented that she couldn’t see me surviving until March without oatmeal. But alas, I now possess said oats and this morning’s breakfast was a beautiful thing.

  • 1/3 cup oats
  • 2/3 cup water
  • Chopped up apple
  • Cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup plain Chobani
  • 2 tbsp Special K granola
  • 1 tbsp PB

Oh oatmeal, I have missed you terribly. Remind me to write you a sonnet about how great my love is.

Other food stuffs.

Another example of my love for colorful plates. Not too shabby looking right? If I had had some blueberries I could have had the entire rainbow represented.

  • Tomatoes
  • Carrots
  • Sauteed yellow peppers
  • Sweet potato
  • Romaine lettuce
  • Cranberries
  • Feta
  • Hummus
  • Mushrooms

Excuse my while I go give myself a metal for the amount of beauty I am able to procure. 😉

Sometimes I pat myself on the back for unnecessary reasons.

OK, to be perfectly honest, I love this picture. Maybe it’s the light or the fact that I love Chobani or maybe it was my makeshift color wheel. Either way, I’m proud.

I do have the more “down to business” shot though!

A mixture of the reminder of the yogurt (maybe 1/2 a cup?), 1/3 cup cinnamon Chex and a tsp of homemade PB… and my Matt Smith background for good measure 🙂

The larger containers of Chobani most definitely triumph over the individual serving ones. I know I say this a lot but the convenience of the resealable top is something I greatly appreciate. When Chobani comes out with these in pineapple I’ll probably jump around with joy and then go buy 16 of them.

Also, I’m a winning wrapper.

Usually, my wraps are weak and I get served, like all the time.

Hahaha, sorry…. I can’t help but make rapper jokes. My bad!

The trick to rolling a perfect wrap depends on how much stuff you put in it. Vegetables are tasty but voluminous. Carrots, tomatoes, edamame, spinach and mushrooms take up a lot of room. Add some turkey breast and hummus and you’ll be lucky if it doesn’t burst at the seams! Eating a wrap with a knife and fork just isn’t the same so this is just another instance when portion control plays a key roll in food preparation… don’t over stuff!

Last part of the post is to touch on the topic you’ve all been waiting for… my food writing class! In all of my college career, I have never been more aggressive about getting into a class, EVER. It was a two week process of back and forth nonsense with my adviser, the registrar’s office and eventually, the head of the English department. It was worth it though and I would fight even harder next time if I had to.

In a nutshell, this class is already everything I dreamed it would be. A topic of all food, all the time. To even begin to describe how many amazing topics we’ve covered already would entail a completely different post. However, yesterday we had a “food experiment” that definitely sparked my interest.

Enter, Miraculin.

Taken from it’s name it’s referred to as the “miracle fruit”. It’s a natural sugar substitute and the fruit bonds the sweet receptors on the tongue. When the taste buds are exposed to this, foods that are normally acidic and sour actually taste sweet. According to an article from Discovery Health, it’s extremely popular (particularly in pill form) with dieters, diabetics and even cancer patients that say the fruit helps ease a side effect taste caused by chemotherapy.

I had never heard of this before and was more than excited to be able to experience it first hand. Our professor, Dr. Goldie, handed us each a Miraculin tablet that we had to let dissolve in our mouths. After, we each sampled an array of foods to test. This included lemons, limes, salt and vinegar chips and pickles.

Upon first bite into the lemon, it was unbelievable. The normal impulse to make a silly pucker face was nowhere to be seen. Instead, it tasted with sweet lemonade and actually REALLY enjoyable. Kat and I were besides ourselves in shock… I mean, to be honest, I had no clue that such a thing even existed!

The lime was also sweet but not as much as the lemon. The pickle, as Amelia and I both realized, didn’t really possess a taste. The crunchy texture was still there but the sourness of the brine had vanished. Personally, the chip was my favorite. I despise salt and vinegar chips and am pretty repulsed by them. However, once again, the taste was gone and if I didn’t know any better I would have thought that I was eating a plain old potato chip!

And that was only the SECOND class. Bisky only knows what kind of incredible things we’ll be addressing as time goes on. Kids, it’s a foodie’s dream and I couldn’t be happier about it 🙂

That’s all I’ve got. I try to keep bringing about updates about what we’re in the class because it would be just plain mean if I didn’t let you guys know! Maybe I’ll even break out the camera and get some pictures of stuff. Now that would be a bold blogger move! Guess we’ll see!

Have a good rest of the day everyone! ❤

Have an ice day!

Can I just say that I am SO in love with the comments? It’s definitely getting repetitious but I can’t help it. LOVELOVELOVELOVE.

Back to business.

Rider has become quite the snow wonderland since I’ve been back. Classes yesterday were canceled AND classes today were canceled. Granted, I don’t mind but this is quite the ironic situation because this exact thing happened two years ago. Rider history likes to repeat itself.

Check out how beautiful my campus looks though!

You can be jealous. It’s cool 😉

Snow days noms.

Reused coffee cup with the following:

  • Half a banana
  • 2 tsp AB
  • 1/4 cup chocolate Chex
  • 1/2 cup plain Chobani
  • 1 tbsp Special K granola

I love the part when I get to go to town and mash everything together. Roomie commented that I was going a little overboard… sorry, I just have a lot of feelings.

Mean Girls reference. For.The.Win.

LUNCH!

A pile of baby carrots (nice and mushy!), sliced tomatoes, hummus, a hidden veggie burger and sauteed peppers. It’s lacking the green, I’m not digging that!

So yes, Dalys food has become my source of nourishment once again. Let me show you!

The dining hall is a tricky mistress but if you try hard enough good food CAN be obtained. The more colors your dish has, chances are the nutritional value will be higher. I also try to go for staples in the protein/dairy/carb departments. Grilled chicken, veggie burgers, whole wheat bread, feta cheese and lots of hummus!

Another tip is to take the time to look around and see what the place has to offer. For instance, Dalys has two salad bars that are always stocked with quinoa! Instant positive protein choice right there. I think the idea of trying is what discourages people but it’s definitely worth it. I have the utmost faith in everyone! 😀

To be honest though, room breakfasts are not the same without my oats.

It’s still pretty but I miss oatmeal desperately. In the bowl:

  • Cut up apple microwaved with cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup plain Chobani
  • 1/2 cup crushed up Quaker Oats Squares (FINALLY finished the box!)
  • 1 tbsp granola
  • 1 tbsp honey peanut butter

You’ll do breakfast, you’ll do. Well, at least for now.

Oh look, it’s time for me to go dinner! Funny how that works out. My next post is going to include my ramblings about my FOOD WRITING class! So until then…. enjoy the rest of the day everyone!

It’s a pride thing.

I’m VERY proud of my new blog layout

In case you couldn’t tell.

Sometimes, I pat myself on the back for a job well done. And then I use former coffee filled paper cups to eat vanilla Chobani and banana because I’m lazy like that. It’s good all around.

My roomie has made it quite clear that she wants her food to appear on my blog. So here is part of her quesadilla

There was LOTS of cheese and I have a feeling her food will be making many appearances on here. Ha bisky!

My dinner makes appearances also.

I forgot halfway through and my plate had formed a mysterious circle. Typical suspects here:

  • Mixed greens
  • Hummus
  • Chicken
  • Squash
  • Black olives
  • Random brown rice (that I ended up not eating. Twas bland)

And finals week has officially begun. I had my first (and only) actual final this morning for copyediting. I think it went all alright but alas, I like to keep on a neutral level when it comes to these kinds of things.

No gym but I still had some oatmeal to fuel my brain!

It was quick and tasty

  • 1/4 cup oatmeal
  • Half a banana
  • Water
  • Last of my Mountain Defiance Trail Mix (about 3 tbsp?)
  • Almond butter

Word.

Today I learned a very valuable lesson about exercising in the afternoon.

PROPER DIGESTION IS IMPORTANT.

I ate lunch around 11:45 and went to the gym a little after 1.

Apparently, one hour is not enough time for digestion.

My initial plan was to elliptical for a half hour and run for a half hour. I managed the elliptical but a minute of running made me incredibly nauseous.

As a runner, I’m stubborn as hell when it comes to my workouts. I give my running 100% and I get pissed when things are compromised. However, even in my stubbornness I was not about to start tossing my cookies (TMI!) all over the treadmill.

So I left. And I’m still annoyed about it to be honest. My pride took a hit. I hate when that happens.

I continued to feel dreadfully wonky but felt better after sprawling out on the floor and stretching. That helped a considerable amount and a few hours later, lo and behold, I ate something. Back to normal!

A little less than half of a vanilla Chobani, 2 tbsp apple sauce, 1/4 cup of Kashi Sunshine  and 4 Quaker Oats Squares (how precise of me!)

The wrapper fell off the Chobani container for some weird reason. Bye wrapper bye!

And now it’s time to get down to business. My plan of action is to get EVERYTHING done by Thursday so I can be a hooligan all over the place. I believe in wishful thinking and determination; it’s the thought process of champions!

Enjoy the night everyone! Crack-a-lack down on yo’ work and then the week will be your oyster.

I’m pretty sure that’s an inaccurate inspirational phrase.

The point is there though, right? It’s the thought that matters, RIGHT?!?!

Oh well, I love you all….

OBSESSED with Hyperbole and a Half Go read it. It will make your night… I guarantee! 😀
