Hey ya!

So in case the GPOY picture didn’t tell the story I wanted it to tell, I splurged and bought myself a Nikon D3000 yesterday afternoon.

Moment of craziness? Happy graduation to me? Probably the first one but whatever the reason, I couldn’t be happier with the purchase. This camera is absolutely incredible and although I still have SO much to learn about photography, it was worth every cent.

Everything just seems to have more LIFE

…including FOOD!

A breakfast photo. Seriously, how long has it been since I’ve posted one of these babies? A LONG TIME.

In the mix:

  • The typical combo of 1/3 water, 1/3 milk, 1/3 oats
  • Half a banana
  • Half a cut up peach
  • A few shakes of cinnamon
  • A tbsp of PB stirred in
  • 1/3 cup Multigrain Cheerios

SPLEEEEEE! Check out the fine details on that spoonful. Quality Oats2O you’ve got there.

Other eats of the day included lots and lots of fruit

Watermelon and cheeries! (and a few unpictured pretzel sticks on the side)

OK, I didn’t actually EAT this but the coloring on it is absolutely beautiful. Fresh from my mom’s garden it was supposed to be a typical eggplant. Instead, she got a Japanese eggplant! Fancy veggies are fancy and I’m very curious to see if the taste varies at all.

Sidenote: I need to work on backdrops for my photos now. I mean, not that I don’t love the salad spinner and the random green pepper creepin’ in the back and everything but……

Dinner!

The fam had BLTs so I figured a deconstructed version would be fun. I still had the B and the L (spinach?) and the T so that’s all that matters!

  • Spinach
  • Tomato
  • 3 pieces crumbled bacon
  • Honey roasted peanuts
  • Carrot
  • Balsamic dressing

On the side I had half a slice of rye bread with some swiss cheese and peach-mango salsa. If you ever EVER get the chance, buy peach-mango salsa. It’s all the kick of salsa but instead the extra kick is from the unexpected sweetness from the chunks of the fruit.

Stepping away from the picture lovin’ for a moment, here’s a quick list of things I’ve done over the summer in case anyone was curious. Probably not but still….IT MAKES ME FEEL BETTER ABOUT MYSELF DON’T JUDGE ME.

Ahem, cue bullet points.

  • I ran the Teterboro 5K for the second year in a row and finished at 28:22 which is a full FOUR seconds faster than last year. Progress, what what!
  • I’ve been on a few interviews and they have all thus failed me. The job searching continues.
  • I’ve seen Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 FOUR times so far. Certainly wouldn’t mind seeing it a couple more times 😀
  • I’ve been driving all over New Jersey because I want to see my girls THAT badly
  • And I don’t regret it!
  • My sister and I joined Blink Fitness for a month thanks to Groupon! This girl hasn’t been to a legit gym since May. I feel like my entire life has been restored and it’s a beautiful thing.

That’s the most important points anyway. I’ve fallen way, way, way too far behind to catch up on every single thing so now I’m starting from scratch I guess. Woo for fresh starts!

My grandma’s 90th birthday is tomorrow so you know that the new camera (who does not have a name yet!) will be getting some exercise. So until then, this picture.

Have a lovely night everyone!

Tiny desserts and canines!

Good morning everyone! There’s sun ALL OVER MY HOUSE and it’s amazing. Mr. Maxwell is freaking out and barking at the birds outside, ’tis nice.

Reviews are few so I decided to make this a post of two of my favorite things: PUPPIES AND CUPCAKES!

Let’s start off with cupcakes. I love them and I honestly don’t know too many people who don’t enjoy the adorable convience that IS a cupcake. Easy to carry, no utensils needed (although personally I eat them with a fork) and a much better treat than a regular sized cake in my opinion. Both my sisters feel the same way about cupcakes as I do and that’s always been one of our “LaForge things”. My oldest sister, Shan, celebrated a birthday on Sunday and what better way to mark the occasion than with those small, super fun treats?

(PSYCHEDELIC ELMO CUPCAKE ANYONE?!?!)

I jump at any opportunity to make my famous RAINBOW cupcakes that I can and that is EXACTLY what I did. It was a bit of a chaotic process what with spilling some of the batter all over the counter, having the wisk break while I was using it and the sudden decision to omit “orange” from the process. However, I endured and succeeded… as per usual!

My little creations before the oven.

It’s a cool looking concept right? My dad likes to refer to them as “Jerry Gracia cupcakes”… further proof that I was a hippie child at some point in my past life.

TADA! This is the 4th or 5th batch of these I have ever made and they’re not my personal favorites. The purple is nonexistant and the red looks like orange, both of which bother me to an extent. Either way, I iced them and in the end, everyone enjoyed them so essentially that’s mission accomplished right there! When it comes down to it: RAINBOWS + CUPCAKES = NO.FAIL.COMBO.

I have to admit, sometimes there’s nothing better than forking over $3.50 for a geniuine good quality cupcake. Here in north Jersey, Mr. Cupcake is THE place to go. They’ve got TWO locations because of their popularity, one in Hackensack (in the Riverside Square mall) and one in Clifton. I’ve had a lot of cupcakes in my day but Mr. Cupcake is the BEST that Jersey has to offer. Their flavors are legit out of this world; the kind that you just can’t make at home yourself. They’ve got Red Velvet, French Toast, Oreo Cheesecake, Chocolate Sunday and JESUS CHRIST can someone stop me?? I may or may not be starting to drool all over the keyboard because of it. Still not convinced? Well here, photographic proof.

Beautiful aren’t they? Haha. I was lucky enough to score a bite of the Snowball (the one at the bottom with the coconut all over it) and it was incredible. Even without the frosting/toppings, the cake part itself was amazing. Moist, flavorful, basically everything a cupcake SHOULD be!

My advice? If you’re in Jersey and have the opportunity, hit up a Mr. Cupcake. Legit!

Cupcakes are one of the pluses to being home for spring break. At Rider, such entities aren’t as easy to come by. When I do spot them chillin’ in the dessert section, I can’t help but follow my instinct and grab one! Here’s the little gem I took back to my room with me a couple weeks ago

He may look like a cute little fella but looks aren’t only 30% of cupcake overall tastiness. The actual cake was very soggy, still possessing a raw cake bater kind of taste to it. I’m an icing kind of girl so despite the “hardness” that the frosting did have, I still enjoyed it. Rider gets a good grade for trying but when it comes down to it, gotta put the effort in if you want a good quality cupcake!

There are probably hundreds and hundreds more things I can say about my favorite dessert ever but I think it’s time to switch over quick for the other aspect of this blog segment. PUPPIES!!

Oh hi nephew Otis. Way to be looking cute there.

MY LITTLE WOLF ❤ ❤ ❤ My one and only love. Yaaaaaaay, I love him and his slightly closed eye!

Hope you enjoyed the cupcake mania that I have provided……Have a good rest of the day everyone!
