Have an ice day!

Can I just say that I am SO in love with the comments? It’s definitely getting repetitious but I can’t help it. LOVELOVELOVELOVE.

Back to business.

Rider has become quite the snow wonderland since I’ve been back. Classes yesterday were canceled AND classes today were canceled. Granted, I don’t mind but this is quite the ironic situation because this exact thing happened two years ago. Rider history likes to repeat itself.

Check out how beautiful my campus looks though!

You can be jealous. It’s cool 😉

Snow days noms.

Reused coffee cup with the following:

  • Half a banana
  • 2 tsp AB
  • 1/4 cup chocolate Chex
  • 1/2 cup plain Chobani
  • 1 tbsp Special K granola

I love the part when I get to go to town and mash everything together. Roomie commented that I was going a little overboard… sorry, I just have a lot of feelings.

Mean Girls reference. For.The.Win.

A pile of baby carrots (nice and mushy!), sliced tomatoes, hummus, a hidden veggie burger and sauteed peppers. It’s lacking the green, I’m not digging that!

So yes, Dalys food has become my source of nourishment once again. Let me show you!

The dining hall is a tricky mistress but if you try hard enough good food CAN be obtained. The more colors your dish has, chances are the nutritional value will be higher. I also try to go for staples in the protein/dairy/carb departments. Grilled chicken, veggie burgers, whole wheat bread, feta cheese and lots of hummus!

Another tip is to take the time to look around and see what the place has to offer. For instance, Dalys has two salad bars that are always stocked with quinoa! Instant positive protein choice right there. I think the idea of trying is what discourages people but it’s definitely worth it. I have the utmost faith in everyone! 😀

To be honest though, room breakfasts are not the same without my oats.

It’s still pretty but I miss oatmeal desperately. In the bowl:

  • Cut up apple microwaved with cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup plain Chobani
  • 1/2 cup crushed up Quaker Oats Squares (FINALLY finished the box!)
  • 1 tbsp granola
  • 1 tbsp honey peanut butter

You’ll do breakfast, you’ll do. Well, at least for now.

Oh look, it’s time for me to go dinner! Funny how that works out. My next post is going to include my ramblings about my FOOD WRITING class! So until then…. enjoy the rest of the day everyone!

“I don’t feel that I need to explain my art to you.”

Typical greeting for a typical day. I mean, typical except for the fact that my dining room table has been taken over by some strange book report that involves making a snowman out of Styrofoam. Projects for kids have gotten a lot more complicated.

Bring back paper book reports! Rah rah sis boom bah!

I actually don’t have that much to say in this post, besides the random cheering anyway.

Yesterday I spent a chunk of my day painting closets in Cate’s new house. Before I started Justin actually said to me, “You’re not going to go put pictures of the closet on your blog are you?”

Well sir, that wasn’t even in my mind but now that you mentioned it….

Don’t those holes look like eyes? They were creeping on me the entire time… well, at least until I painted over them. Painting is a lot harder than I thought. Lots of bending and arm stretching! Also, I was told I paint like some kind of Picasso maniac. I don’t think that was meant as a compliment I’m going to take it as one anyway!  Hahaha.

Creepy closet thing is the only picture I took. No food at all. Nope. Guess I was unmotivated. Also, my camera battery had died so that didn’t help. My bad!

My Sony just needed his beauty sleep and was up and ready for breakfast photos.

It was a colorful kind of morning! The usual gang:

  • 1/3 oats
  • 1/4 milk
  • 2/3 water
  • Half a banana
  • Cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp flax-seed
  • 1 tbsp AB
  • 1 tsp WCPB
  • Raisins and almonds from the LaForge trail mix

Sidenote: My camera doesn’t have a name and I’ve decided I want to name him something!

Due to the snow, as I may or may not have mentioned a hundred times, exercise has been limited. As a result, I took to the stationary bike again for an hour. It was a good workout but guess who has a literal pain in her butt again? 😉

After a shower I grabbed some foodage which was basically a random combination.

  • 1/2 of a grapefruit (Grapefruits are hooligans and quite annoying to cut. Next time, I’m slicing them… forget this quartering nonsense!)
  • A carrot cut into slices with a tbsp of roasted red pepper hummus
  • Kiwi
  • 1/2 cup of vanilla Chobani with Cheerios, a few raisins and some Special K granola.

My other sister, Shannon, was in the kitchen at the same time. She kept looking at my food with a disgusted face and saying, “You eat such weird things.” You know, if there’s one thing I’ve become accustomed to, its people telling me I eat weird things. I’ve become quite OK with it and even enjoy it but I could help but respond with,

I don’t feel that I need to explain my food choices to you.

Whoops, was that a little sassy of me? Not really. More so I was channeling my inner AJ from the movie Empire Records. And if you have no idea what I’m talking about, look that movie up ASAP!

I’m ending this post with some pretty snow pictures from my backyard to make up for the lackage. Tomorrow’s post is going to be better… there’s going to be CHILI!

Aaaaaaaand a picture of Matt Smith, just for good measure

    Definitely IN character.

Happy Cookie Friday everyone! You had all better be eating cookies and being happy and maybe drinking some coffee too because it’s snowing.

    Mmmm, coffee is yum.

Oh yeah, and it snowed… AGAIN.

I personally like the right picture better… the blinds in the shot adds a nice creepiness factor to it 😀

So there has been a box of sweet potatoes just aching to be used. Thank goodness for the blogs, constantly aiding me in my baking dilemmas. After some searching I decided to use Tina’s (AKA the cookie queen!) recipe for Sweet Potato Oatmeal Raisin Cookies.

The recipe was SUPER simple and the whole thing took me a half hour at the most

Sometimes I forget to peel the potato before microwaving it. Oops.

I believe when I do things like this it shows that I have character. Pretty sure I’ve said that before.

I REALLY want to have character. REALLY BADLY.

Does that make me desperate?! Boo.

    Er, results?

    Hey guys heyyyyyy!

I overloaded them with coconut and golden raisins because Nana told me to. However, when it came to tasting she vetoed them.

“It tastes too much like sweet potato!” and then she made a 😛 face.

Well… I REALLY liked them! They tasted like a typical oatmeal cookie and I think the sweet potato added an extra moistness to them. Chubby liked them also but he does humor me at times. If Cate likes them then it’ll be OK… haha, I value her opinion very much.

I had scraps for dinner. It was quite funny actually.

Similar to Allie, I certainly do not like wasting food! Enter the sweet potato scraps with some AB! The rest of the plate was a salad of randomness:

    • Romaine
    • Carrots
    • Cucumbers
    • Tomato
    • Raisins
    • Craisins
    • Swiss cheese
    • Balsamic

Seems odd, tasted awesome. It all works out in the end!

My oats this morning had a new twist to them AND photographed beautifully.

Chocolate oats in da house! Also, I’m convinced that bowls seriously affect oatmeal presentation.

It just looks so… elegant. Or maybe it’s just me. Whatevs, it’s PRETTY!

    In the mix:

    • 1/3 cup oats
    • 1/4 cup milk
    • 2/3 cup water
    • Cinnamon/sea salt
    • 1/2 a banana
    • 1 tbsp cocoa powder
    • Blueberries
    • 1 tbsp AB

Sadly though, there was no chocolate to be tasted! I thought a tbsp would have been plenty but the oatmeal was just like usual except that it had a lovely brown coloring to it.

I made up for it though (don’t I always?!)

1/4 cup of chocolate Chex gave it that oomph that I was looking for. If you’ve never tried them, GO TRY CHOCOLATE CHEX. It’s like crack but not crack. It’s good crack…I mean, if there were such a thing as good crack…. (oxymoron?!)

While the snow, er, snowed everywhere, I cleaned, did dishes, danced around and then settled down to eat some lunch.

Whole wheat sandwich with turkey, ham, swiss, lettuce and hummus. Sides included baby carrots and a nice pickle…which I assume is appropriate considering all the Jersey Shore hype that’s been flying around.

Yes, I do enjoy JS but didn’t watch it last night.

I played with the French version of Rosetta Stone until 1 AM instead.

I also munched on some trail mix but alas, undocumented.

That’s all I’ve got. Nana is currently shaking her booty/yelling lyrics to Freebird and Come On Eileen in the kitchen while making ambrosia salad… she’s such a party animal sometimes. I think that’s my cue to go and dance with her! 😀

I made a heart in the window but outlined it like a first grader for significance purposes. If you’re reading my blog right now then this is for you ❤

    Qwinter Qwonderland!

Qwhat? You don’t use q’s in certain qwords?

In other news, the east coast has been bombarded with snow. A lot of snow.

We know that I’m a winter child and will forever be one. However, this lovely white powder has put a major detriment on physical activity! Without running and a gym, I’ve been relying on the WiiFit, online yoga and nightly made-up workouts in my room.

It’s interesting how desperately you crave physical activity when you’re without it.

(Nana and Chubby have a particularly messy room. Tsk tsk!)

I bundled up today and took to our garage to use the stationary bike. It was COLD in there (I saw my breath all over the place!) but it was so totally worth it. I biked for an hour AND was able to work up a pretty decent sweat despite the temperature. Yay!

Backtrack to yesterday’s eats… it was a boring, boring, BORING kind of day. Pretty sure I read blogs for at least 2 hours straight. Heh.

    OIAJ… it’s been a while!

Cate and I both had mugs that said #1 mom… Nana really thinks highly of herself apparently 😛

    • 1/3 cup oats
    • 1/2 a banana
    • 2/3 cup water
    • Half a cut up apple
    • 1/3 cup multigrain Cheerios

“Sometimes he makes me hold up his head for him” -Cate

Doing nothing makes him tired sometimes.

I wasn’t really hungry for a while but eventually decided to eat a tangerine.

Expect MANY more of these. We received a huge box of citrus fruit for Christmas so I’ll be taking in a considerable amount of vitamin C!

I forgot how difficult it is to peel cold fruit.

Don’t worry sad sack, just eat a grapefruit next time!

    Dinner was uneventful.

Hamburger covered in hummus atop a HUGE pile of romaine lettuce/carrots. I also made sweet potato fries for everyone and had some on the side.

Although it did feature more wine 😉

The rest of the night included my first time watching CBS Monday night TV which turned out to be truly hilarious!

    Oats number 2! (this morning!)

This was particularly good for the cold

    • Other half of yesterday’s banana
    • 1/3 cup oats
    • 1 tbsp flax seed
    • 1/2 cut up apple microwaved with cinnamon
    • 1 tsp WCPB
    • 1 tbsp AB

    Warmed my cold little soul!

Now I’m reading more blogs (or “makin’ the rounds’ as I like to call it!), downloading music for my mom and contemplating another cup of coffee and some yogurt. Hmm.

I leave y’all with a lovely Ask Amy letter that was in today’s paper. It was just one of those things that just reminds me that there’s nothing wrong with being single (yours truly has been single for, well, ever) and that everything will fall into place when it’s ready to.

Don’t go looking for love, let love come looking for you. I can dig that. ❤
